Materials Used in Ski Manufacturing
Ski manufacturers utilize a combination of materials to achieve the desired characteristics and performance of their skis. While the exact materials may vary among manufacturers and ski models, Cyanoacrylates, Epoxies, Fumed Silica, and other components play important roles in the ski manufacturing process.
Fiberglass and composite layers are applied to the ski's core to enhance strength, torsional rigidity, and power transmission. Fiberglass, typically combined with epoxy resin, provides excellent tensile strength and impact resistance. Carbon fiber and other composite materials may also be used to further enhance specific performance attributes, such as stiffness and responsiveness. These layers are strategically placed and laminated to create a ski that efficiently transfers energy from the skier to the snow.
