Use Cases

Choose the Right System for Your Sign Making

Different builds need speed, strength, or both. Use this map to match CA, MMA, or a hybrid to your letters, panels, and frames.

Acrylic & Plastic Bonding

Best for: Acrylic letters, PVC panels, layered signage

  • Clean, low-visibility bonds on show faces
  • Fast positioning with CA glue
  • Ideal for fine edges and visible surfaces

CA for speed and precision

Channel Letter Assembly

Best for: Fabricated letters, trims, mixed components

  • Quick tack for alignment and assembly
  • CA for placement, MMA for strength
  • Metal and plastic parts in one build

Hybrid: tack first, then lock

Metal & Structural Bonding

Best for: Frames, brackets, load-bearing parts

  • High-strength MMA adhesive
  • Vibration, stress, and outdoor exposure
  • Often replaces mechanical fasteners

MMA for strength and durability

Mixed Material & Panel Mounting

Best for: Metal + acrylic, plastic + wood, backing boards

  • Reliable bonds across dissimilar materials
  • Even stress across faces
  • Cleaner finish without screws or rivets

MMA for structure; CA to position

Watch

Clean bonds for mixed-material signs

Prep, bond, and finish—without messy squeeze-out on show faces.

  • Prep: Degrease, abrade lightly, then bond.
  • Adhesive: CA for tack; MMA for open time or gap fill.

Tips

  • Ventilate to reduce CA blooming on acrylic faces.
  • Dry-fit, tack with CA, then lock gaps with MMA.
  • Mask visible edges before cure for easy cleanup.
Choose by need

Pick the Right Product

Two categories for sign work: structural MMA (placeholder lineup) and instant CA picks for fast tack and fit-up.

MMA structural adhesives

Dummy lineup—SKUs, open times, and shop packaging will be finalized. Use for load-bearing bonds and mixed substrates.

Instant CA glues

Material-matched instant adhesives—use the right bottle for plastic, metal, or wood; pair with C-Set when you need an instant lock.

Trust & Performance

Why Sign Shops Choose CEC Adhesives

Mixed Material Reliability

Mixed metal, acrylic, and wood in one reliable sign build.

Handles expansion differences; less stress and cracking at the bond line.

Clean Application, No Mess or Rework

Controlled flow on letters, edges, and tight details.

Minimal squeeze-out on show surfaces; less cleanup and rework.

Fast Set for Efficient Production

CA gives instant tack so you spend less time clamping and holding.

Keeps letter sets and subassemblies moving down the line.

Structural Bonds That Replace Fasteners

MMA for load-bearing joints, gaps, and uneven fits.

Outdoor-tough cure when signs need long-term strength.

FAQ

Common Questions

Common questions about adhesives for sign fabrication, channel letters, and display builds.

For most sign applications:

  • Small parts / letters — CA glue
  • Large surfaces / structural bonds — MMA adhesive

Why:

  • CA — fast, clean, precise
  • MMA — stronger, handles expansion differences between materials

Note: If the sign is exposed outdoors or under stress, lean toward MMA.

Yes—but only for specific steps.

Best for:

  • Positioning letters
  • Bonding small trims or components
  • Fast assembly before final reinforcement

Not ideal for:

  • Structural joints or load-bearing parts

Note: For full channel letter builds, combine CA (speed) with MMA (strength).

MMA adhesive is the best choice.

It provides:

  • High structural strength
  • Resistance to temperature changes
  • Flexibility to handle expansion and contraction
  • Long-term durability under weather exposure

Note: CA glue alone is not recommended for long-term outdoor structural use.

Most failures come from poor surface prep. Do this:

  • Clean with solvent (remove oil and dust)
  • Lightly sand or abrade the surface
  • Ensure the surface is dry before bonding

Note: Bond strength depends more on surface prep than glue type alone.

This is called blooming—common with CA glue.

Causes:

  • Excess adhesive
  • Poor ventilation
  • High humidity

How to avoid:

  • Use minimal CA glue
  • Apply with precision (micro tips)
  • Use accelerator properly—do not overspray

Note: On visible areas, control application carefully.

Yes—but CA glue is not ideal for this.

  • CA — best for tight-fitting surfaces
  • MMA — designed for gap filling and uneven materials

Note: If surfaces are not perfectly flush, use MMA adhesive.

CA glue

  • Fixture time: seconds
  • Full cure: up to 24 hours

MMA adhesive

  • Working time: a few minutes (varies by formula)
  • Handling strength: 10–30 minutes
  • Full cure: several hours

Note: Choose based on whether you need speed or working time.

In many cases, no—if the right adhesive is used.

  • CA glue — light-duty or positioning
  • MMA adhesive — can replace mechanical fasteners in structural applications

Note: For large or safety-critical signage, some shops still combine adhesive and fasteners for redundancy.
