Back in the 1940s, Dr. Harry Coover, an Eastman Kodak chemist, was trying to create a clear plastic gun sight for the military. During his experiments, he stumbled upon cyanoacrylate, an incredibly sticky substance that bonded everything together—so much so that the project was scrapped!
Years later, Coover realized the potential of this all-purpose adhesive, leading to the creation of Eastman 910, later branded as Super Glue. Coover famously demonstrated its strength by suspending a man using just one drop of glue on national television!
But Super Glue wasn’t just for household repairs and TV stunts. During the Vietnam War, its battlefield potential was discovered when medics used it to instantly seal wounds and stop bleeding. This life-saving application laid the foundation for the use of similar adhesives in modern surgeries to replace stitches.
From accidentally bonding objects in a lab to saving lives in war zones and becoming a household staple, Super Glue is a testament to the power of unexpected discoveries. Dr. Coover went on to hold more than 400 patents, proving that sometimes the biggest breakthroughs happen by accident.
Today, CECCORP continues the legacy by offering high-performance cyanoacrylate adhesives, bringing innovation to industries worldwide.
